How can I make my mornings better?
Mornings are of two types: the first is where you wake up feeling energized and refreshed, ready to conquer the world and the other is the opposite when you can’t make yourself move from the comfort of your bed and your body is, literally, trying to stop you from waking up.
But can mornings be made better?
I think they can be. Sure, not all mornings can be perfect but there are always things you can do to improve them.
I have not always been the one for mornings, in fact, it used to be the thing that I hated the most.
Table of Contents:
Things to Do Every Morning:
Later in life, I learned about the benefits of having a good morning.
You all must have already read about things to do every morning like drinking hot lemon water and green tea, making your bed, doing yoga and meditating in the mornings (psst, it makes your whole day better). Not only that but these things create a brilliant week too, but what if I told you there’s more?
That’s not a surprise. I have found that somethings can be more helpful than some but we don’t always have time.
There are many small things to do every morning that can make them better and in turn, those things will make your whole day amazing, plus eventually, you will make a lifestyle change for the better. They don’t have to be a big time commitment, just simple 5-minutes will do.
Let’s get into it now, shall we?

5 Things to Do Every Morning in 5 Minutes
#1. Step Outside
I’m not talking about going for a jog or maybe going out for work. That’s a thing for later.
The first thing in the morning that you should do is step out. Open the windows, go over to your balcony or maybe your porch. Feel the morning air and feel the sunshine on you. That’s how to start your day right.
It isn’t a big commitment so you don’t have to feel overwhelmed with all the things to do every morning. 5 minutes is all it takes, even less than 5 maybe. It will wake you up and make you feel great and fresh.
The fresh morning air is more beneficial than anyone gives it credit for. In today’s polluted world, the morning air is the cleanest form you will get. It has less amount of vehicular exhaust, smoke, dust, and soot, making it the freshest of all.
It has amazing health benefits and for people who have jobs that can keep them locked indoors for hours, this will be great.
Good Relaxation did a post about the health benefits of fresh air, check it out.
#2. Set a Morning Playlist
This is quite a common recommendation but it’s surprising how many people forget the magic of music.
Set up a morning playlist, you can set up multiple to suit your different days.
One for when you want to feel pumped for a day of work, one for when you want to relax your mind, one for when you feel like dancing around the house. You can also set motivational and inspiring podcasts’ playlist to listen in the morning.

Make as many as you would like, and make that something you do first thing in the morning.
Trust me, listening to music/podcast in the morning can set your mood for the day.
There have been days when I don’t want to get up and do anything, so I push myself out of bed and put on my ‘get pumped morning’ playlist and honestly, it changes my mood for the whole day and it’s a great thing to do every morning.
#3. Brain Dump (Write it Out)
If you like writing, you know the power that this small task gives you. Doing this first thing in the morning is a great way to organize your thoughts, set your goals for the day, and your expectations.
Take a notepad and designate it as your morning journal, write anything and everything. I understand, knowing what to write can be overwhelming sometimes so try these for a start:
- 5 awesome things you want to accomplish today and why?
- What do you want your day to turn out as?
- 5 things you are grateful for and why?
- Try some writing prompts
- List of other things to do every morning.
- What did you dream about? Do you think it means something?

Writing doesn’t have to be this huge thing, it’s a tool. A tool towards a better, organized, and clear life.
Words have power and they can influence you in ways that you can’t imagine. Use that power to understand yourself better.
When you write every day, you will eventually become a master of flow. Words will flow out of you and you can understand yourself better. So, get writing guys!
#4. 5-Minute Task List
I know, I know, this is kind of a five-minute task list but why stop there?
5-minute tasks are great because you don’t realize how much stuff you put off for when “you have more time”. So, continue doing them for the rest of the day and be more productive.
Make a list of small tasks like folding the laundry, organizing your email, writing a thank you note, cleaning out your purse, etc., that you can do in five minutes.

These are great for sidelining routine tasks that might pile up after a while. Making the list will give you a goal and a feeling of being more productive throughout the day.
Doing something small will encourage you to achieve your bigger goals of the day and you’ll be way more responsive.
#5. Chat with Someone
In the hustle and bustle of every morning, we forget to talk to our loved ones.
My mornings used to be like that, I would get up and hustle hard to get everything straight, get ready and leave with only a few good mornings, and a few words thrown in here and there.
Slow down, life isn’t running away. Chat with loved ones for at least five minutes in the morning, while you eat breakfast or when you are getting dressed.

Talk about what you are planning to do today, what are their plans, maybe about something you read and found interesting?
It’s one of the simple things to do every morning. You’d think that you do it every morning (many people do, if you are one of them then you’re awesome!) but think about it, really think about it.
It’s especially difficult when you have kids. So, take your time with everyone. Chat with your kids, what are their plans for the day, what are they excited about?
Bonus tip for things to do every morning:
#6. Take a Snap!
Does that sound weird? I hope not. I didn’t include this in the main list because it’s not for everyone.
But don’t forget to give it a try to see how it works for you. Beautiful pictures can be so soothing and if you’ve taken them by yourself, even more amazing.
So, here’s what I do: Every morning when I step outside and soak in the fresh air and the amazing sunrise (or maybe just a beautiful sky), I try to take a few snaps of it. It’s weird how such a thing can make you feel good.
The morning sky looks good on all types of cameras (I use just my phone), plus whenever I am feeling bad through the day I like to look at it and remember the beautiful morning that I started my day with.
It perks my mood up. I don’t understand how, but it just does.
Try it and see how it works for you. Don’t forget to tell me if it makes your day better, I don’t want to be the odd one out.
How do you start your day right?
Mornings are hectic? I don’t believe it. They are hectic only if you make it. Believe that you have all the time in the world, you can do everything with time to spare and it will be so.
If your mind is in a rush, you will be in a rush. That is the reason I take these 5-minute things to do every morning so seriously, it makes me feel better plus little tasks make you feel more accomplished and that’s how to start a day.
With these 5 things to do every morning to have an amazing day and get you started with accomplishing your goals from the get-go.
- Step outside and breathe in the fresh air
- Set a morning playlist
- Brain dump, writing it all down
- Make a 5-minute task list for the day ahead
- Chat with someone
- (Bonus Tip) Take a snap!

Really digging this list. I like to brain dump before I go to bed to quiet my mind but sometimes I use the voice recorder to brain dump while I’m commuting to work. Then when I get to the office, I write everything down. I’m also going to make myself a morning playlist. Thanks for the tips!
Malvika Shahi says

Britney says
This is so good! They are things that you might not think to do right away, and I’m definitely guilty of waking up and just getting started right away. It leaves me feeling more drained, less energy to really get into things. It makes me anxious, too!
Definitely going to start implementing the outside air and playlist/podcast habits. Happy New Year!
